Representing LPDC, South Field Officer Abir Atma joined the UNRWA Employment Center launching event in Tyre. Atma emphasized the important role of such initiatives that falls in line with the economic empowerment of the Palestinian refugees and the drive to assist them in improving their socio-economic condition by securing means for an autonomous livelihood beyond any local or external assistance. This empowerment is only the first step in a series of procedural measures aimed at shaping active individuals and training them to be part of the peace building action on the Lebanese territory currently and within the independent State of Palestine in a later phase.
Atma also highlighted the positive cooperation between all parties in supporting this initiative, seen as the starting point of a long track to achieve the best results. It is also a pragmatic approach in building a sound and educated society, a mission perfectly in line with the Government of Lebanon’s orientation as stated in the Ministerial Declaration, aimed at improving the living conditions of Palestinian refugees on Lebanese territory.
LPDC’s spokesperson underlined one of the committee’s mission in identifying the problematic issues and barriers hindering the implementation of empowerment initiatives and providing advisory and consultative missions to decision-makers and public institutions.
The employment office will seek to find job opportunities to some 5000 Palestinian refugee by managing offer and demand according to competencies and available recruitment requirements. The project is implemented by UNRWA in collaboration with ILO.
