The GoL pledged helping the New Camp’s NBC residents in repairing and reconstructing their pre-crisis residential units. This commitment, based on the legal advice and consultancy provided by the Ministry of Justice Legislative and Consultative commission, required setting up a suitable recovery and reconstruction plan to deal efficiently with the challenges raised by the Lebanese Laws in matters related to compensations.
Currently, a number of international institutions offer grants to repair residential units in the Prime areas in the New Camp, funded by the Italian embassy in Beirut, in coordination with the CDR and the GoL’s Central Fund for Refugees. The grant’s 5.000 000 USD is the only amount secured as part of the total fund pledged in the Vienna document to compensate the New Camp’s residents affected by the destruction.
