Popular Committees and Municipalities

Since their first inception back in 1969, the role of the Popular Committees focused on dealing with issues related to Palestinian refugees residing in the various camps throughout Lebanon in terms of services, education, health and culture.

Generally and in line with their primary goals aimed at assisting and serving camps’ residents in the various walks of life, Popular Committees supervise the projects sponsored by local and international institutions, donor entities/countries and UNRWA. They also seek to promote social interaction inside the camps, in addition to their coordination role with institutions working outside the camps.

Upon the completion of LPDC’s technical assistance team, efforts were exerted towards promoting channels of communication, enhancing relations and connecting Palestinian camps and communities with their neighboring municipalities.

Coordination with Popular Committees inside Palestinian camps and communities tops LPDC’s priorities list and agenda; it is a central issue for the LPDC technical team members who are touring daily the various camps to collaborate equally in setting up coordination and collaboration mechanisms, with one and all and with no exception.
