Interministerial Committee

The LPDC committee is comprised of representatives from several Lebanese ministries and Headed by Ambassador Abdelmajid Kassir by decision No. 65/2011 issued by the Prime Minister Najib Mikati in July 2011. The ministries represented are the Ministries of Justice, Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Social Affairs, Labor, Public Health, Interior and Energy and Water. Moreover, efforts are currently underway to add a representative from the Ministry of Education to the committee. Ambassador Khalil Makkawi was the president of LPDC from 2005 to 2009 and Me. Maya Majzoub from 2009 to 2011.

 
Specifically, the LPDC committee is mandated (Decision No. 41/2005) to address:
  1. The outstanding socio-economic, legal and security issues related to thePalestinian refugees residing in Lebanon, in collaboration with UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees)
  2. Develop a mechanism that puts an end to Palestinian armed presence outside camps.
  3. Initiate dialogue regarding the regulation and control of Palestinian weapons inside camps under the Lebanese sovereignty.
  4. Study the possibility of establishing diplomatic relations between Lebanon and Palestine
 
The committee meets regularly to discuss the issues outlined in their mandate.
 
Recommendations for administrative, legal and security reforms, and amendments to procedures and policies, are made with the aim of improving the conditions and rights granted to Palestinian refugees within the framework of Lebanese sovereignty.
